Dr. Michael W. Miller

With a special interest in exotic pets, Dr. Michael W. Miller has an exhilarating perspective providing the most innovative techniques and medical care for your pets.
Dr. Miller joined our practice in 2013. He obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from the University of Miami, Florida in 2007 and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois in 2011. Dr. Miller had externships at the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago and the Georgia Sea Turtle Center in Jekyll Island, Georgia. He also volunteered for the WildLife Medical Clinic – treating injured Illinois wildlife.
Dr. Miller is a member of the ISVMA, AVMA, the American Association of Feline Practitioners and the Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians.
Dr. Miller has three aquatic turtles, Mitchell, Norton and Mader; one dog, Wombat; and one corn snake, Crush. When not looking after your pet's care, he enjoys watching Chicago sports teams and running with Wombat.
Dr. Stephen P. Carter

An interest in, and compassion for the well-being of each patient, from a tree frog to a Labrador makes Dr. Stephen P. Carter one of our talented veterinarians.
After getting his bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois in 1986, Dr. Carter completed his DVM in 1991. He is a member of the AAHA, ISVMA, AVMA, Association of Reptile and Amphibian Veterinarians. He started with our practice in 1983 as a kennel technician and rejoined as a doctor in 1993.
Dr. Carter and wife, Sarah, have one daughter, Savannah and several pets: a Labrador, Tyree; a cat, Butter; and through the years have included snakes, lizards, rabbits, numerous small mammals; and a squirrel monkey named Alvin, while growing up.
He enjoys reading, fly fishing and other outdoor activities in his free time. Dr. Carter also has a 'mean' drop pitch in Wiffle Ball.
Dr. Justina Koehler
Dr. Justina Koehler is a passionate veterinary professional committed to providing her clients and their pets with exceptional care.
In 2016, Dr. Koehler obtained her degree in veterinary medicine from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. Highlighting her compassion, Dr. Koehler volunteered in Thailand at an elephant sanctuary and in Nicaragua on a spay/neuter mission while earning her degree.
She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and Illinois Veterinary Medical Association.
In her spare time, Dr. Koehler paints, bakes, reads, and spends time outdoors. She is the proud pet parent of a black Labrador mix, Doogan, and a feline friend, Pumpkin.
Dr. R Todd Gay

With extraordinary care and compassion for each pet and its owner, Dr. R. Todd Gay is one of our beloved hometown veterinarians.
Dr. R. Todd Gay received his Bachelor of Science Degree with honors from Eastern Illinois University in 1979 and obtained his DVM at the University of Illinois in 1983 with honors. He joined our practice the same year.
A member of the American Veterinary Medicine Association and American Animal Hospital Association, Dr. Gay is also a member of the American Heartworm Society and the Cornell Feline Health Center.
He and wife, Becky, have two daughters, Heather and Holly. He enjoys traveling, photography and running during his free time.
Dr. Gay retired in September of 2016.
Deb, Hospital Administrator
“I enjoy meeting and speaking with clients and helping them care for their pets. Because of the number of years I have been here, I now am working with second generation clients – awesome!”
An alumna of Dwight Township High School, Deb has been part of the Dwight Veterinary Clinic for 37 years. She and her husband Cy have: five children, David (Jennifer), Daniel, Dennis (Kori), Jill and Beth; and seven grandchildren, Kailey, Jack, Bo, Kailey, Cole, Owen, and Jackson. Deb enjoys traveling, attending grandchildren's events, knitting and reading. She is a member of the Veterinary Hospital Practice Managers Association and the American Animal Hospital Association.
Cori, Certified Veterinary Technician/Hospital Manager
“Our staff at Lakewood is like family – we have a good time each day and I love animals.”
Cori has been with our practice for over 27 years. She and husband Brian have three children. They also have several pets: Bella, Boxer; Burberry and Tiger Kyd, Sphynx cats; Pebbles, Box Turtle; four fish and two hermit crabs. Cori attended Parkland College and in her free time enjoys her family and watching her kids in sporting events.

Debby has been a member of the practice for 11 years. She and husband Ken have three sons and three grandchildren. Debby enjoys traveling and spending time with her grandchildren in her free time.

Chris joined our Lakewood staff in 2002. She and husband Keith have three children and one granddaughter, Cameron. They also have an Australian Shepherd mix named Bessie. Chris attended Joliet Junior College and fills her free time with bike riding, walking, camping, reading, flea markets and enjoying time with family.

Meaghan joined our Lakewood Animal Hospital staff in February of 2015. She attended Joliet Junior College and has rescued Catahoula/Lab mix named Dexter and a carnival goldfish named Donkey Kong. When she's not greeting you at the hospital, Meaghan enjoys fishing, bowling, hiking, working out and attending music concerts.
Nicole, Certified Veterinary Technician

Nicole has been a member of the Lakewood Animal Hospital for 21 years. She also attended Parkland College. Nicole and husband Roger have four children and several pets including: two dogs, Rif and Raina; five cats, Dobby, Regis, Gunner, Peppermint and Samantha; five horses, Mooner, King, Zane, Finney and Psyvante, a goose, Felix, a tortoise and bearded dragon. When not helping keep your furry family member healthy, she enjoys horseback rididng and showing, watching her kids activities – showing horses, soccer and trap shooting.
Ashley, Veterinary Technician
“I love seeing the joy animals bring into other people's lives. I also love when we get interesting cases.”
Ashley joined our staff eight years ago. She obtained her bachelor's degree in photography from Columbia College – Chicago. Ashley has two cats, Oscar and Coco; one dog, Kahlua; and one fish, Alfred. She enjoys exercising, DIY projects, photography and traveling.
Becky, Certified Veterinary Technician

Joining our Lakewood Animal Hospital staff in September of 2015, Becky received her Associates in Veterinary Technology Medication from Joliet Junior College. She and daughter, Lia, have three dogs: Marvin, a Beagle mix; Waylon, a Shepherd mix; and Bear, a Boxer mix. In her free time, Becky enjoys spending time with her daughter, going to the movies and spending time outdoors.
Alex, Kennel Technician
“I have always enjoyed being around animals, so it is a pleasure to work with them.”
Alex joined our Lakewood Animal Hospital Kennel staff in July of 2015. She is currently attending Joliet Junior College. Alex has two siblings, Payton and Marques, as well as two dogs, Wrigley and Pico, and one rabbit named Snowball. When not taking care of your pets, she enjoys camping, fishing, nature walks, shopping, basketball and spending time with her family.
